Meet The Team
FOUNDER / ARCHITECT
Ryan Russell is a Redding native and is Founder of RAD Studio Architecture & Design, established in 2015. His studio strives to introduce contemporary residential, commercial and public space architecture through the use of technology that provokes exciting, unexpected reactions and creates space that enhances the way people experience life and connect with each other.
He received a Master of Architecture from UCLA's School of Architecture and Urban Design in 2010, and a bachelor's degree in Business from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2007. During his tenure at UCLA, he also studied under the late Zaha Hadid at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, becoming fascinated with new digital tools, such as 3d modeling and 3d printing, that are reshaping how he designs and what is now possible to build.
He and his wife, Suzanne, live and work in downtown Redding and are passionate about seeing downtown Redding thrive and regain its identity. In their free time they enjoy getting outdoors for an adventure - snowboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, and traveling to experience to new places.
David received his Master’s in Architecture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2014. Throughout his undergrad and graduate career, he attended universities from California to Germany and took courses in multiple disciplines including engineering. He earned a bachelor's degree from California State University Chico in Concrete Industry Management, and a Minor in Business Administration. He loves how architecture encompasses so many disciplines and sees design opportunity in every aspect of our daily lives.
David and his wife, Erin, are both architectural designers here in Redding, and met in Grad School in Massachusetts. Before starting at RAD studio, David worked in healthcare design at a local firm in Redding for 3.5 years. While working at RAD studio, he has been able to work on many exciting and important projects in the Redding area. “Residential architecture is really where my passion is. I love how personal it is. Shifting a few walls and windows here and there can directly impact how a family engages with the space and each other. Ideally, I love creating a positive space of refuge for generations to come.”
David’s passion for architecture stemmed from his love of building and working with his hands. Both of his grandfathers built their own homes and woodshops and passed on their skill and love for woodworking to David. Growing up, David and his dad built tree forts and storage sheds, and most recently flipped a house together.
David grew up in Redding and spent his time hiking, fishing, and exploring the beautiful outdoors this area has to offer. His wife recently got him into kayaking, which they love to do together. He enjoys cars and automobile design, playing guitar, and watching the 49er's rebuild year after year.
