Pine Street Parklet

"A parklet is a small space serving as an extension of the sidewalk to provide amenities and green space for people using the street. It is typically the size of several parking spaces. Parklets typically extend out from the sidewalk at the level of the sidewalk to the width of the adjacent parking space."

The first of its kind in the Redding, this parket is a slight revision to the above concept, in that instead of a being an extension of the sidewalk, it is rather an extension of a community space onto the sidewalk itself. It is placed to accompany and serve a growing coffee bar business as well as facilitate sidewalk gathering & social atmosphere. The parklet also includes a public bike repair stand, also a first of its kind in Redding.

Attempting to blend in with the existing industrial surroundings of concrete & metal, this parklet utilizes a concrete wall that grows out of the sidewalk to create lounge seating separated by planters, indicating separate gathering spots. The wood plank seating "floats" over the planter and extends itself into and beyond the new parklet space to establish clean lines and an a less rigid and permanent feel to the overall structure.
